Matthew Rockett

About

I'm a Software and Robotics engineer based in the Boston area who specializes in creating software that enables robots to reliably perform complex planning and manipulation tasks. I hold Bachelor's (2018) and Master's (2020) degrees in Computer Science from the University of Washington. During my undergrad while in classes I assisted in research in the Systems Lab and TAed for various courses. During the summers I interned at Uber on the uDestroy Chaos engineering platform, and Sift (formerly SiftScience) on the DevOps team deploying Kubernetes services.

During my masters I worked in the Personal Robotics Lab, building MuSHR, a cost-effective autonomous vehicle for education and research. This led me to a job at Zordi, where we build agricultural robotics for harvesting strawberries and performing other fine-manipulation tasks.

Working at a robotics startup has allowed me to explore many different fields I had not previously been exposed to:

Collaborating closely with mechanical engineers to design the physical systems in conjunction with the software system.
Creating electrical systems for power distribution and data distribution such that our systems function reliably.
Designing under environmental constraints. The green houses get really hot and are not waterproof. Our networks aren't always connected.
Collaborating closely with Machine Learning engineers to collect the right data to enable faster training and model validation.
